What is ICSI?

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a very effective method to fertilize eggs in the IVF lab after they have been aspirated from the female. During the past decade, ICSI has been applied increasingly around the world to alleviate problems of severe male infertility.
Adam & Eve Clinic, Noida provides both IVF & ICSI procedure to facilitate reproduction when patients are not able to conceive naturally. When there is case of severe male infertility then ICSI is applied.

Why Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection is done?

Ø ICSI is used to treat severe male infertility, as when little or no sperm are ejaculated in the semen. Immature sperm collected from the testicles are more likely to fertilize an egg through ICSI.
Ø In cases where severe male factor infertility that do not want donor sperm insemination
Ø ICSI is used when IVF has not worked after repeated tries. Low rate of fertilization.
Ø ICSI is used to try to get a higher percentage of eggs fertilized than with conventional insemination of the eggs (mixing eggs and sperm together).
Ø ICSI is also used for couples who are planning to test the embryo for certain genetic problems.
Ø A need to use frozen sperm that is not of the best quality

How is ICSI performed?

Adam & Eve Fertility Center in Noida, specializes in IVF & ICSI where we have successful cases of ICSI for men who have impaired or no sperm in the ejaculate. ICSI produces an estimated 25% to 30% birth rate.
1.     The mature egg is held with a specialized holding pipette.
2.     A very delicate, sharp, and hollow needle is used to immobilize and pick up a single sperm.
3.     This needle is then carefully inserted through the zona (shell of the egg) and in to the center (cytoplasm) of the egg.
4.     The sperm is injected in the cytoplasm and the needle is removed.
5.     The eggs are checked the next morning for evidence of normal fertilization.

How long does ICSI Treatment takes?

One cycle of ICSI takes between four weeks and six weeks to complete.
Starting from egg and sperm retrieval to embryo transfer the whole process is done in this cycle. Some mild pain is experienced in this procedure and the retrieval process is done under anesthesia which is completed within hours.
